The Life Science Zurich Graduate School consists of several highly competitive PhD programs all of them run jointly by the ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. Our programs offer a comprehensive and challenging PhD education that allows our students to develop into tomorrow's leaders in life science research.

Our PhD positions are generously funded and we provide the students with a challenging training environment, a clear mentoring system and the opportunity to perform cutting-edge research. With nearly 500 research groups and more than 1600 PhD students, we are one of the largest graduate schools in Europe.

Application deadlines: May 1 and November 1 every year!

If you want to apply to the Life Science Zurich Graduate School you are welcome to do so via our online application tool.

Applications sent by e-mail are not accepted.

Applicants must hold a Master's degree or equivalent from a university in the field of Natural Sciences. You can also apply if you receive your master's degree within 6 - 9 months after the application deadline. In this case, please upload a copy of your Bachelor's degree or an academic transcript.

Only pdf files are allowed!

The Life Science Zurich Graduate School can offer 80-100 PhD projects for each recruitment round. These are visible to all short-listed candidates.

Assessment and selection procedure

Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their application and the letters of recommendation. Short-listed candidates will participate in a round of online interviews and may thereafter be invited for an in-person visit in Zurich. Travel expenses will be reimbursed and free accommodation in Zurich is provided.
